Before creating a post where you ask something, read this post and try to use the search function, because someone else could have already written a post for your hardware and the related questions.

As this is a specific FAQ thread, so please do not ask questions regarding the issues you're having. If you have any topic to discuss with or have any question to ask, please use the appropriate forum and open a separate thread instead. If you have something you'd like to add to this thread, feel free to reply here.

If you can't find the answer after you've read this thread, and searched into the forum with the search results, then you can create a post with your particular question.

But now, let's start!

Q: First, is my Desktop PC compatible?
A:
Read the compatibility thread here: https://www.elitemacx86.com/threads/read-first-desktop-compatibility.141/

Q: From where I need to start
A:
Checking if your hardware is compatible, and you can follow our thread here: https://www.elitemacx86.com/threads/read-first-desktop-compatibility.141/

If you are using any other bootloader, it's good to switch to Clover as it as several advantages. You can use Clover for Legacy and UEFI.

Before you start with all these stuffs, find your hardware details.

The details you need
  1. Motherboard model
  2. CPU model
  3. Graphics
  4. RAM
  5. Audio Codec
  6. SATA Information
  7. USB Information
  8. Ethernet/LAN
  9. WiFi, if available
  10. Bluetooth, if available

To find out the details, a guide has been already written. For more information read here: https://www.elitemacx86.com/threads/guide-how-to-find-complete-system-information.300/

Your profile should reflect the hardware information. Do not use Signature to provide your system details. You can use signature for the other systems you might have.

To edit your profile, you can find the User Menu at the bottom. Just click on Account Details and you can enter/update the details over there. You can also edit your profile by using this link: https://www.elitemacx86.com/account/account-details

The four fields must be filled out as follows:
  • Motherboard: Manufacturer name and model
  • CPU: CPU model
  • Graphics: Available graphics device
  • Bootloader: Clover(UEFI/Legacy)
Motherboard - This include your motherboard model no. along with the manufacturer name.

CPU - This include your CPU model no. along with the manufacturer name.

Graphics - The Graphics device model your system uses. Either NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel HD Graphics.

OS X/macOS - The OS X or macOS version you're trying to install or has been installed.

Bootloader - Select the Bootloader according to your System. Either Legacy or UEFI.

For example, typical hardware information for a desktop:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z370 AROUS GAMING 7
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
Graphics: nVidia GTX 1080Ti
Bootloader: Clover(UEFI)

The profile is for the current hardware, you're seeking for support. Once you complete the hardware, you can use it under your signature. Use Signature for your rest hardware.

To edit your signature: https://www.elitemacx86.com/account/signature
Please provide your signature details for each specific system in a single line.

Yes, you can. Following this link will guide you through all the steps.

Q: Can I download High Sierra?
A:
Yes, you can. Follow the link here: https://support.apple.com/macos/high-sierra

Q: What if I haven't access to a real Mac?
A:
Ask to a friend or colleague who has a real Mac or buy a Mountain Lion DVD, install it, make the Ethernet working and then download macOS.
Installing OS X on a new and modern hardware can be difficult and there can be other issues.

Probably asking a friend to use their Mac is a better idea.

Q: Is there any guide for installation?
A:
Yes, the guides are available.

For 10.14.x: https://www.elitemacx86.com/forums/mojave-desktop-guide.46/

A:
You can configure it as Dual Boot. Better if you install from scratch. Installing with pre-installed Windows can be possible but it can create several issues, so it's your the decision to install it with or without Windows already installed. Read here : https://www.elitemacx86.com/forums/multi-boot.54/

Q: Do I need to set DVMT-prealloc to 64MB?
A:
DVMT-prealloc is only required when you are using IGPU (Intel HD Graphics). For a external graphics, such as nVIDIA or AMD, it's not required.

Q: Is Coffee Lake supported?
A:
Yes, coffee lake is supported.
The coffee lake CPUs are natively being recognized on macOS High Sierra. However there are graphics notes. See below

Q: Is Coffee Lake and Kaby Lake-R Graphics supported?
A:
Yes, the above graphics are supported. Not natively but spoofed. You can use the KBL graphics drivers by using FakeID/IntelGFX and FakePCIID.kext + FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics.kext.

More has been covered here: https://www.elitemacx86.com/threads/fix-intel-uhd-graphics-630-on-10-12-6.217/

Q: I've got a NVMe drive. Is it compatible?
A:
Yes, it is and you can use it as boot drive. Our suggestion is to use Solid State Drive or NVMe Drives to have a faster system. And obviously, to use Samsung ones. With High Sierra and later, the NVMe drivers are supported out of the box. But if you're planning to use Sierra, you'll need to add some patches. For more information, read here: https://www.elitemacx86.com/threads/guide-how-to-use-nvme-and-m-2-drives.290/
